Grieg - Lyric Pieces Book X, Op. 71 (PDF Sheet Music / Digital Download)

Edvard Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, Book 10 (Op. 71), published in 1901, serves as the poignant conclusion to a massive forty-year project that defined his legacy as a master of the "miniature." While his earlier books often focused on the bright, folk-inspired themes of Norwegian life, Book 10 is marked by a deeper, more introspective maturity and a sense of "autumnal" reflection. The set consists of seven pieces, ranging from the delicate and nostalgic Once Upon a Time to the haunting, chromatic depth of Peace of the Woods. Perhaps most significant is the final piece, Remembrances, which poignantly transforms the very first melody from Book 1—the Arietta—into a waltz-like farewell. This cyclical return effectively bookends Grieg's career, turning the entire collection of sixty-six pieces into a unified musical life story.
