Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11, is a luminous masterpiece of the Romantic era, composed in 1830 just before the young virtuoso left his native Poland forever. Although published first, it was actually written after his Concerto No. 2, showcasing a more sophisticated structural ambition and a signature blend of melancholic lyricism and technical bravura. The work is defined by the stile brillant, where the orchestra provides a stately, almost operatic backdrop for the piano’s shimmering cascades and "bel canto" melodic lines. From the dramatic urgency of the opening Allegro maestoso to the ethereal, moonlit intimacy of the Romanze and the spirited, folk-inspired Krakowiak finale, the concerto remains one of the most beloved showcases for pianistic expression, capturing the fleeting transition between Chopin’s youthful optimism and the profound "żal" (sorrow) that would define his later years.

This edition is a reissue of music originally published by G. Schirmer, New York.
