Collection: Julian Yu
Born in Beijing in 1957, Julian Yu displayed his compositional talent early, writing a one-act Peking opera at age twelve. After studying in Beijing and Tokyo, he moved to Australia in 1985, where his career flourished. He was awarded the Koussevitzky Tanglewood Composition Prize in 1988 after earning the praise of Leonard Bernstein, and consecutively won the prestigious Paul Lowin Orchestral Prize in 1991 and 1994. Yu's music is widely performed by top orchestras and ensembles globally, featured at major international festivals, and commissioned by diverse organizations including the BBC, IRCAM, and the Beijing Olympics.
